Well, I was really looking forward to the drive home...... with the top down... the weather & traffic for the first 100+ miles was atrocious so the top stayed firmly in place. I was pleasantly surprised with how I was quite happy sitting in a traffic jam!! admiring the dash & feeling very smug. Once onto the M1 & the traffic eased a little but still very busy so again very happy cruising along at 60 watching the faces of people passing & straining their necks to admire "Lexy" as my wife has named "her" ?????. Had 2 boy racers pull up alongside but felt sorry for them so just chilled. Did blip the throttle a couple of times overtaking wagons etc. But it's just too easy to break the law.
It took me 4 1/2 hours with one pee stop to do 230 miles, pulled up outside the house after what felt like a couple of hours with no aches or pains, feeling quite relaxed & Lexy !!! showing an average mpg of 35.5. We have just driven to York this morning, a drive we do very regular to visit the daughter& we agreed that the time just flew by, seemed like 15 minutes & not an hour plus.
When we came down last week I told Rich that I first drove an SC430 on a Lexus open day in 2001, the car was lovely but the drive was horrendous & put me off them for a good few years, so very pleased to say that Rich has this one sorted, firm but not too harsh, feels planted & very safe on the road & very very comfortable. I'm quite hard of hearing so the exhaust note is wasted on me but my wife loves it, 'girl racer'. Having to change holiday plans now as it looks like the Alphard is staying home & Lexy is going to France for a few weeks, hotels instead of campsites, will just have to rough it. Couple of pics of the birthday girl this morning with her (our) present.
Finally got the car taxed, bloody DVLA, so can now enjoy cruising in style. Just been & filled up & first calculation is 31.2 mpg -- that's filling up at Twigworth, drive home, to York & back & fill up again, 362 miles. More than happy with that
