Mechanical How to remove Lexus locking wheel nut

So this can be a right pain when you buy a car without the locking key or you lose it :persevere:

This has happened to me today on number 40
Spoke to a local wheel company and they want £140 to remove them 🤤

And am Defo not paying that

So had a look at the locking nut and they have a sleeve on the outside which prevents you from turning the nut

So what I done was,got the grinder out and cut little slots into it all the way round then with a real strong screw driver and lump hammer broke off the sleeve
Then got a tight fitting socket and hammered it on and bingo 🙂 it’s off

Not a easy job,and really does your back in,but saved £140 🙂

Well that Fixed it ! Other options ...grind slots in the middle sections and Chisle it around ...after first giving the locknut an almighty smack with a club hammer and socket extension .

How did you get the grinder into the recess? In picks 1,4,and 5 ........ Is that a a small mark by the side of the recess from the grinder?

pain in the arse those starred lock nuts they often shear or strip i always ditch them if fitted having had your same problem on two different cars. i prefer the nuts with the welded bars on the outside much more robust.

Other options would be to weld a nut on the end but it’s more of a workshop method 👍🏻

Personally, I'd consider removing the lockers and then never re-fitting them!

I put standard wheel nuts on all my cars now, as I've had too many issues with locking nuts, always at the worst time.😣 Plus scumbags are more likely to nick your Cat, versus your wheels nowadays anyway! 😄

Third cat's missing already and the tyres are so stretched, no one can get a jack under it. 🤣
Bloody hell , Neil I nearly dropped my cup of coffee reading that 😂😂

I never fit them to my cars
People don't nick wheels any more they just take the whole car , and to be honest how many Lexus sc430 get stolen , I bet not many .
